While Groff is an exceptional actor, there is no denying that he simply didn’t bring the gravitas to the role that Weaving previously had. Just like Morpheus, a version of Hugo Weaving’s Agent Smith appears in The Matrix Resurrections, this time portrayed by Jonathan Groff. Of course, Yahya Abdul Mateen II portraying Morpheus in the fourth Matrix meant that Laurence Fishburne wasn’t going to be a part of the film.
